Lacking Motivation? Causes/Ways to Overcome It

Lacking motivation and energy is so common, we all get into a funk every now and then. What’s important is realizing what might be making you feel unmotivated and finding ways to overcome it! There are always obvious ones, not drinking enough water, eating enough protein, and getting enough sleep. These are usually the obvious reasons why you might be feeling lazy and sluggish, however, there are so many other triggers that might be aiding to your lack of energy.

Difficult relationships- being in difficult relationships or friendships can have you feeling emotionally drained. These relationships can cause you to feel drained and lack motivation. This can be caused by a romantic partner, friend, family member, or even work colleague. Try to take some time and analyze your relationship with the person that may be causing you distress. Weigh the pros/cons of the relationship and reflect on why you allowed this person to stay in your life for so long.

Procrastination- waiting till the last minute to do something actually does more harm than good. The thought still dominates our mind, even if we aren’t doing it…hence where our energy flows. We do our best work when we have time/preparation to do something.

Screen time- scrolling on your phone for hours will drain your energy, especially seeing things that can cause you stress or discomfort. Your body responds to real feelings which can cause exhaustion and fatigue. Be cognoscente of what you look at on your phone and the apps you use.

Setting boundaries- a work/life balance is so important. Over functioning and over giving can be detrimental to both your physical and mental health. Saying yes, when you want to say no can be the ultimate energy drain. Prioritizing yourself should always be your number one goal and setting healthy boundaries. It can be hard to master but once you do, you will be living your best life.
